Two signs of a scam and how to avoid it Scams can happen anytime, anywhere. Even at your own home, you can fall prey to a scam started by a family member. It may or may not be intentional but the damage has already been done, all because you trusted a person. One way to ensure that you will not be a victim of a scam is to know what a scam is like. Although scam artists will basically have different techniques on how to do a scam, a scam will have the same features. Here are two of them. Read on to avoid them. 1. Ultimatum
Scams often have an ultimatum part which the scam artist will use to pressure the victim to stop thinking about it and just buy the product or the service. Usually, these ultimatums will be in the forms of freebies, discounts or other promotional gimmicks. They will tell you that you have to buy today or risk losing the freebie or promo. Ultimatums work because when pressured, people will start to not think anymore. Their greed or sometimes their need to save as much as they can will prompt them to buy something that they don't really need. People often want what they can't have and since the only way they can get the freebie that they want is to pay up earlier than usual, they do it. But what they don't know is that when allowed time to reflect on the offer and to really think about it, they will realize that the whole thing has major flaws. There are a lot of things in the transaction that remain unaccounted for. When you are already outside the situation and are not in a pressure-filled environment, you are able to think clearly. You are able to see the things that you were not able to see the first time. You will go back to the situation and see the things that you missed. If there is an ultimatum in the offer, do not think about it. One out of ten, it is a scam. Avoid it like a plague. 2. Testimonials
Although not all products and services that use testimonials are scams, most of them are. This is part of a marketing campaign to lend credibility to a product that does not have concrete results. Usually these testimonials will either be paid for or made up.
