Tips in avoiding scams online and offline Face it. There are people with bad intentions. Even if we want so desperately to give Pollyanna a run for her money in the optimism department, we can't. We shouldn't actually because too much trust can lead to losses and disappointments. Everywhere, there are scams created by people who are out to get your money. This is the reason why it is important to be vigilant when it comes to dealing with people. Below are some tips on how to avoid scams, both online and offline. 1. Be on guard
Do not trust anybody. Money can be a great motivator. Sometimes, even your own flesh and blood can scam you. Go into a transaction with doubts in your mind and then seek to satisfy each by asking questions. This is vastly better than getting into it with full trust only to have that trust broken. 2. Do your research.
Don't go into anything without studying it thoroughly. Doing research works wonders. You may not be able to find out the whole truth, but at least a little information may be able to cast some doubts, enough to make you think twice. Research may seem hard but it's not actually. You don't need to go hire an investigator for it. Just asking around is already enough. If you are working with a company, make sure that the company truly exists. Ensure that it is a listed and legitimate business. You can ask for peoples opinion. If it is a business in a particular field, what you can do is to join forums and ask people about it. People online are very helpful. They will surely have an answer for you. 3. Ask for opinions.
One way to ensure that a business is real and it is not being run by a scam artist is to visit its office. This however is not an assurance. Some scam artists, especially the big timers will even set up an office just to make the business appear legitimate. When you visit the office, look at their operations. Does it seem true to you or contrived? Ask how many years the company has been in the country. A new company is risky. However, if you are dealing with an online transaction; it can get trickier. This is harder to track because most of them will be working from home. Some will not even have any office. What you can do with this is to try to contact the person even through telephone, that way, you will at least have a sense of the person.
