1. Research. Do your homework. The internet provides a vast body of knowledge that can help you in your search. Look up the name of the company and check if they are listed. Check their office address. If the address is a bit far from your place, you can always call and ask questions. Listen to the voices. If there are only a few people, chances are, it is just a small operation and therefore a cause for doubt. If the number listed online does not work, it is another point against them. If there is no office address, think about it. Legitimate businesses will have some sort of office.

2. Ask in forums People are very helpful. Join forums in the particular field that you want to invest into or buy from. Ask the people in the forum if they have heard of the company before. If someone has any negative experience with the company, consider that as a minus point. If they have some positive comments about it, consider that positives. When nobody has ever heard about it, be careful with these companies. They are often the small operations that come and go and change their names. It can be a scam.

3.Look at the rating and comments online Websites will usually have some sort of comment page where people can write their comments about the site. Read them. You will find a lot here. Note how many they are. If they number less than 10, check the comments do they seem contrived and too positive? Ebay also has user ratings that you can check out if the seller and buyer can be trusted.
